NO FUTURE? Migration und Flucht in der Klimakrise / Migration and Flight in the Climate Crisis

Migration policy also takes place in the context of the climate crisis. Panel discussions and workshops in English.

Freitag, 24. Februar
19:00 Uhr – Podiumsdiskussion

Friday, February 24
7 p.m. – Panel Discussion

More and more droughts and floods, less and less drinking water, increasingly difficult living conditions for people and animals: these are the climatic realities in many parts of the world. And the forecasts for the coming decades do not allow for much optimism. In many places, the climate crisis is making living impossible – sometimes insidiously, through soil erosion, through distribution conflicts – sometimes suddenly, through extreme weather events. The consequence: migration and flight of millions of people worldwide.

In public, alarmist forecasts of gigantic flight movements to Europe are often invoked. The reality is different: The vast majority of affected people are fleeing within their own countries or to neighboring countries. Eighty percent of the refugees come from countries that have been severely affected by climate crisis but have few resources to deal with the impacts. These include the five countries from which the most people are currently forced to flee worldwide: Syria, Venezuela, Afghanistan, South Sudan and Myanmar.

We want to discuss how migration policy is negotiated in a climate context. What do progressive political perspectives look like? How do people in regions affected by the climate crisis cope with the changes? How do local communities strengthen their resilience? What scope for action do activists see on the ground? And which ones are opening up for us here?
